Stonefield Castle Hotel is set within 60 lovely acres of the Kintyre Peninsula, just outside Tarbert, and overlooking Loch Fyne.
The Stonefield Restaurant has lovely large windows and snags maybe the best views of the loch. The cooking here is mostly traditional Scottish, with an emphasis on local produce and particularly good seafood.
There is also a very inviting wood-panelled bar. Think cosy log fire, and one of their great collection of Scotches whisky in hand.
The building dates back to 1837 and was designed in the Scottish baronial style. While it’s been updated over time, naturally enough, it hasn’t lost much character.
Rooms are spread across 36 spaces, a mix of Classic and Deluxe options. Some are more contemporary in style, others feel a little more in keeping with the building, but all are stylish in their own way, and super comfortable.
The ones facing the loch are the obvious pick for the views, if your budget can stretch.
Check your room options out on the booking page here.
Outside, the castle grounds are as lovely as you might imagine. There’s so much space to wander, with paths leading through the grounds and out towards viewpoints over the loch and hills beyond.
If you feel like venturing further, Tarbert is a couple of miles away. It’s a small harbour village that’s easily reached on foot if you’re up for a walk.
The staff can also arrange outings in the wider area, from fly-fishing on Loch Fyne to horse riding at Brenfield Estate, and there are several golf courses within driving distance.
Even the journey in plays its part. The drive from Glasgow takes around two and a half hours, and is widely considered one of the more scenic routes in this part of Scotland.
Some Guest Reviews:
“An excellent place to stay, just book it. The location was perfect for our needs and while we did not have an opportunity to explore the grounds, they looked exceptionally well maintained. The interior is very nice and comfortable….”
“Very impressive hotel in a beautiful location. The real gem here is the staff and management who are the most professional and the best we have ever encountered. We have travelled all over Europe and the UK and can honestly say that the food from the bistro is the finest we have ever tasted, and was consistently excellent on every occasion. We will certainly be returning to this hotel in the near future….”
