Château Marteret is a fairytale-like, luxury chateau for rent in the heart of Gascony, South West France, near both Bordeaux and the foothills of the Pyrenees.
It has eight bedrooms and can sleep up to fourteen people very comfortably. The beautifully renovated interiors are minimalist and chic, maintaining loads of historical charm.
Surrounding the chateau are over 400 acres of estate to be explored, including orchards, woodland, meadows, a lake, and a small herd of Meren horses.
The Rooms:
The chateau has a total of six spacious double bedrooms and one twin. It also has five very nice bathrooms some with romantic bathtubs, an elegant, French country-style kitchen (catering services can also be arranged though if you don’t feel like cooking), a dining room, and lounges and sitting areas with comfortable seating and stylish furniture.
The chateau itself is undoubtedly beautiful and atmospheric but for many the estate’s private grounds make a stay there extra special.
They cover nearly 450 acres in total and you can go swimming and sailing (there is a small boat there to use) in the large lake, sunbathe on its sandy shore, wander for hours around the meadow fields, orchards, and woodland, go wildlife spotting, have a picnic or just soak up the utter tranquility of the place.
The estate has a small herd of lovely Meren horses, a famously calm and agreeable breed, and you can also take them for rides if you’d like.
If you are not an experienced rider you can also arrange guided treks with the help of the chateau owners. For further sport, the chateau also comes equipped with a trampoline, table tennis, archery, and boules courts.
As well as the above-mentioned catering services if required you can also arrange daily maid services for your stay at Château Marteret.

Location:
The Chateau is located in the Department of Gers, formerly known as Gascony, one of France’s least populated regions and one which offers a lovely feeling of being off the beaten track.
It is a deeply rural place with miles and miles of farmland and woodland, small, quaint villages, and winding roads leading on towards the foothills of the Pyrenees to the south.
The nearest large town is Auch, the ancient capital of Gascony, about twenty minutes away by car. The journey from Toulouse should take around an hour, and the journey from Bordeaux around two.
