This Tuscan Castle for rent is a stunning old building with a wonderfully preserved old world atmosphere. It has ten bedrooms, to sleep up to twenty people in perfect comfort, and there is so much to admire at every turn; antique furniture, hand decorated ceilings, frescoes and numerous art works.
The castle structure is impressively grand and imposing too, and is surrounded by flower gardens and lawns, with various seating, lounging and al fresco dining areas, as well as a swimming pool and a jacuzzi.
It has a choice location; just a few kilometres from Tuscany’s Maremma coast and from its large roof terrace there are great views of the surrounding countryside, Elba Island and the Mediterranean Sea.
Castello di Magona was built in the first decade of the 16th century and is known for its long association with the Grand Dukes of Tuscany including the very last Grand Duke, Leopold II, who reigned from 1824 until his abdication in 1859, and lived at the castle for most of that time.
THE ACCOMMODATION:
Castello di Magona has three floors. On the ground floor there is the impressive entrance hall and three lounge/living room areas, one of them with a bar and fireplace, and another with a large flat screen satellite TV with DVD player. There is also a kitchen, dining room and bathroom on the ground floor.
Up the staircase, on the second and third floors, are the ten individually decorated double bedrooms, all of which have en-suite bathrooms and air conditioning.
Four of the rooms are fairly ‘standard’ doubles, then there are five large, suite type, rooms with seating areas and one particularly large ‘master suite’. (Note: up to six of the bedrooms can be converted to twin beds if needed, just put a request note in on booking).
There is a large rooftop terrace from where to enjoy the lovely views and outside there are well tended gardens, with plenty of space for lounging and al fresco dining, a swimming pool and a jacuzzi.
Note: if you don’t feel like cooking at any point, catering can easily be arranged, from fresh buffet breakfast spreads to lavish multi course evening meals. And cooking classes can be arranged too. Just put a request note on the booking form.

THE LOCATION:
Castello di Magona lies south of Livorno on Tuscany’s Maremma coast/Etruscan Riviera just outside the small town of Venturina Terme. The town itself is fairly unremarkable but it has lovely thermal baths as well as a few restaurants, cafes, shops and supermarkets.
This area in general is well known for producing some of Italy’s very best DOCG wines, particularly Sassicaia and Ornellaia. As a result there are plenty of wine tourism activities available in the area; wine tasting, vineyard/winery tours etc., and tours and visits can be booked directly from the castle owners, including bespoke tours with local wine experts.
Many other activities can also be booked through the castle; boat trips to Elba, private beach club reservations, horse riding trips etc. etc.
The castle is roughly 100 kilometres from Siena, about the same from Pisa, and about 150 from Florence.
