Le Manoir de Champfreau has a three bedroom manor house and a one bedroom cottage for holiday rentals on a 15th-century, partially moated, estate near Saumur and the city of Tours, in the heart of the Loire Valley.
The accommodation is spacious, comfortable and full of historic character with sturdy old stone walls, wood beamed ceilings and a great array of classic antique and art pieces.
ACCOMMODATION:
The main building is the 200 m² (2100 ft²) Manor House which has three comfortable and spacious double bedrooms, one of which is en-suite and all of which are beautifully, and individually, decorated with antiques, Persian rugs, mirrors, paintings, prints, tapestries and floor to ceiling curtains.
Adjoining one of them is the Turret Room, a small room which served as the Manor Oratoire (private chapel) in olden times and is still now designed and decorated as such.
The entrance hall has deep red upholstered walls, a large oak table and many fine antiques, paintings and prints, a wrought iron, candle holding chandelier, and an 18th-century era library filled with books, mainly about history, art and architecture.
The main room of the house is the large ‘Great Room’ with an old Gothic fireplace as its centre-piece. It has comfortable sofas, cable TV plus DVD player and an iPod compatible music system. It also has lots more lovely antique furniture and art pieces plus a large dining table to seat up to ten people.
There is a large kitchen at the manor with a full range of modern equipment; full size fridge freezer, stove, electric oven and rotisserie, microwave, toaster, coffee maker and dishwasher etc., plus a full compliment of cooking utensils, dishes, glassware and cutlery etc. too. The kitchen will already be supplied with herbs, spices, oils and most dry goods you may need and if you don’t feel like cooking at anytime you can also request meals be provided for you.
Outside there is the elevated, south-facing terrace accessed via French doors from the main living room/reception room. There you’ll find a sun umbrella, various furniture for lounging and dining, and a charcoal barbecue.
Rental of the manor house (referred to as the ‘Villa with Private Pool’ on the booking page) includes exclusive use of the 10×5 meter swimming pool, outside in the 3 acres of beautiful gardens.
The other accommodation choice, the romantic cottage, has one bedroom with ensuite bathroom, a large salon & library with a baby grand piano and an enormous 15th century fireplace, a separate dining room, a fully equipped kitchen and two outdoor furnished terraces. It too has oodles of historic character and is also something of show room for fine antiques and art.
