The very pretty Chateau de Maraval is where 15th-century design meets 21st and somehow they get along quite nicely.
Its unashamedly contemporary interior design is so well done it doesn’t seem at all incongruous on a five centuries-old canvas.
The chateau is a boutique hotel but with only four rooms (book as quickly as you can!), very friendly hosts and a down-to-earth atmosphere, it feels more like a gathering place for long-lost friends.
The breakfast here is a great feast and is served up until noon, later on you can enjoy complimentary homemade cakes and snacks, coffee and tea etc.
The owners sometimes organize evening dinners for the guests too and there are also some great restaurants in the surrounding area.
The chateau itself looks fairytale-like from the outside, especially as it is surrounded by some lovely deep, peaceful woodland – very inviting to explore. There is also a swimming pool at the property, a small gym and spa facilities.
Note: neither children nor pets are allowed at Château de Maraval.
“The chateau exceeded our very high expectations in every way possible. The location is peaceful, the air fresh and invigorating. The house itself stunning, with a fun spa, exercise room, huge jacuzzi and sauna. The room was extremely comfortable and the shower fantastic, and breakfast was marvelous. And the hosts. Wow. Cannot say enough about them. Kind, caring, helpful, and all with a smile. A perfect getaway…..”
“This was one of the loveliest places we have ever stayed and one of the nicest holidays we have had. This is the most wonderful small chateau. The owners were fantastic and incredibly friendly and helpful. The room we stayed in was beautiful with a stunning bathroom set in one of the turrets. The decor throughout the chateau is modern, exciting and fascinating, contrasting with the traditional build of the exterior. The breakfasts were lovely and very high quality. The location is superb, set in its own grounds but twenty mins from Sarlat, 10 mins from spectacular places such as Domme and La Roque Gageac, 40 mins from Lascaux Caves. The environment in the Dordogne at this part of the river is lovely with a chateau at each bend in the river, beautiful scenery and lots of places to eat and drink stunning food. We loved this place and this chateau. Our hosts were outstanding and we would recommend this incredibly highly to anyone wanting to spend time in this part of France…..”
