Dalmunzie Castle Hotel, Scotland is set deep within Glenshee, at the southern edge of the Cairngorm Mountains.
It’s the kind of place where the landscape does most of the talking, broad, open, and quietly dramatic.
Walking routes abound through the surrounding glen, nearby rivers draw many for fishing.
And the estate’s own nine-hole golf course, often cited as one of the highest in Britain, is definitely one of the most scenic you’ll ever come across.
The estate itself stretches across 6,500 acres and it and the castle have a history back to 1510.
With only 17 rooms, the accommodation feels informal and easy to settle into, more like staying somewhere privately owned than at a traditional hotel.
That sense carries through to the rooms. Some are compact and straightforward, others open out into suites with fireplaces and small lounge areas.
Interiors don’t lean too heavily into the heritage, but you’ll still have plenty of touches – four-poster beds, antique furniture to give a suitably historic feel.
Evenings at Dalmumzie centre around food and drink. The restaurant has a pretty refined approach to food but the space is also relatively informal, and cosy, for a castle dining hall.
And you can keep things even more simple with food from the bar.
The wine list is broad enough to cover most preferences, though of course, being Scotland, it’s the whisky that stands out.
There’s a great depth to the single malt selection, and the staff are noticeably more enthusiastic about the whisky than the wine.
Some Guest Reviews:
“The ambience was amazing. Scotland encapsulated in a building. The staff were exemplary and a credit to themselves and establishment. Friendly, functional and clearly fully engaged in their roles. Just brilliant. Thank you…..”
“Very impressive hotel in a beautiful location. The real gem here is the staff and management who are the most professional and the best we have ever encountered. We have travelled all over Europe and the UK and can honestly say that the food from the bistro is the finest we have ever tasted, and was consistently excellent on every occasion. We will certainly be returning to this hotel in the near future….”
