Lympstone Manor is particularly famous for its restaurant achieving a Michelin Star within six months of opening, an extraordinary achievement that tells you it is very much in good hands.
The chef and owner, Michael Caines MBE, has won numerous Michelin Stars and other accolades over the years and is now successfully getting to grips with running a kitchen and a hotel.
He places a great emphasis on fresh local, seasonal ingredients and the menus, including a sumptuous 8-course tasting dinner menu, change almost weekly.
Wine is another great focus at Lympstone; they have two basement cellars with a total of 600 bins, and in 2018 work began on their own vineyard.
It is now home to 17,500 Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier, and Chardonnay vines, to produce classic English sparkling wines.
There is a pleasantly casual bar at the hotel too, you can also enjoy lavish afternoon teas and drinks out on the terrace on summer evenings to watch the pink sunsets over the estuary.
You will surely be tempted to wander down on foot or by bike (bikes are available at the hotel) and explore this lovely, and protected, piece of Devon coastline which has an enormous amount of bird species to be spotted.
You can organize a whole host of water sports here too; kayaking, canoeing, windsurfing, water skiing, and just good old-fashioned fishing, among others.
There are a couple of golf courses nearby too and you can also arrange horse riding trips around the very scenic Devon countryside.
