Right outside Clifden, Connemara, this homely, welcoming Irish castle hotel can be a great base for exploring the region.
Abbeyglen sits a wooded hillside overlooking Clifden Bay and with The Twelve Bens Mountains in the background it feels rural, but is yet only a five minute walk from the centre of the town (uphill on your way back though – be warned!)
It’s a four star hotel in a Victorian-era castle folly that is wonderfully well kept, both the interiors and the gardens that surround.
Rooms are spacious and comfortable, Abbeyglen is certainly a quality hotel. Classically styled with antique furniture, four poster beds and free standing bath tubs they feel old world romantic.
The common areas too share that spirit, particularly the dining hall. Facilities at Abbeyglen include a fine dining restaurant, a bar with live music, tennis courts, spa facilities, snooker and table tennis.
The journey from Galway City should take around an hour, through some beautiful scenery, with Dublin being over three hours away.
