The 4 Star Château de la Caze is a very romantic, Renaissance-era chateau hotel with a fairy tale-like setting in the Gorges du Tarn near Rodez, a canyon gorge that is one of this area of France’s most well-known natural wonders.
The chateau has an intimate, boutique hotel feel and a peaceful, relaxed atmosphere.
It also has some lovely gardens, a heated outdoor swimming pool, a spa bath, a gym, and an excellent gastronomic restaurant amongst other things.
The Rooms:
They have a choice of rooms and suites available from standard double rooms to 40 m² suites. Most of them are in the chateau itself with some suites also to be found in the Maison de Martine, an adjacent converted old farm building.
All the accommodation choices are doubles but in the Maison de Martine suites, you can sleep an extra two people using the sofa bed (though for an extra charge).
Some people have reported that some of the standard double rooms are a bit on the cramped side; to be certain of adequate space you can go for the superior rooms or above.
Of the suites, the only thing to decide is whether to take one in the chateau building itself or in the Maison de Martine which has a nice setting overlooking the gardens and swimming pool.
The design and decoration of all the accommodation accentuates the historical nature of the building; bare stone walls, old arches, tapestries, and antique furniture and art pieces abound.
Modern hotel mod cons include TV, WiFi, mini bar, safe, etc., and some very nice bathrooms, many with bathtubs.

Facilities & Things to Do:
The incredible setting of Château de la Caze means that guests cannot help but find themselves exploring the Gorges du Tarn, one of this area of France’s most wonderful natural landscapes.
It is right on your doorstep and an incredibly inviting place for long hikes, rock climbing, or canoe rides, all of which can be arranged from the hotel.
After that, you can relax by the heated swimming pool, take a dip in the outdoor jacuzzi, expend even more energy at the gym, order a therapeutic massage, or enjoy some fantastic gourmet food and wine at the Château de la Caze restaurant.
The Location:
The location is pretty hard to beat, as mentioned above the chateau sits right by the river in the Gorges du Tarn about 7km from Sainte Enimie, the nearest village.
It is also near the wilds of the Grands Causses-Cévennes Natural Park and this entire area is a wonder to explore with gorgeous landscapes and oodles of medieval history (you’ll need a car though, train and bus services are limited!).
Rodez and its international airport are just over an hour away while Montpellier and Nimes can both be reached in around two hours.
Some Guest Reviews:
“The castle was more beautiful than imagined and every detail was first rate. The setting on the river Tarn was so beautiful…in the mornings we saw deer out our window overlooking the river and in the afternoons we swam in the Tarn which was just idyllic. Our suite had a large terrace overlooking the river which was just perfect. A little pricey, but well worth it….”
“Stunning scenery, a vivid sense of history, great staff, wonderful food – a stellar experience. Our second visit, and just as wonderful as the first. Special thanks to Fabian for his attentive, friendly help. Chateau de la Caze is lucky to have such great staff….”
