Il Castello Delle Quattro Torra – the castle of the four towers – is an iconic sight on the outskirts of the walled city of Siena, Tuscany, and comes with tremendous views over the city on one side and the great plains of the Crete Senesi on the other.
It dates all the way back to the 13th century and has been a Siena landmark ever since.
Much may have changed since then but luckily, in its present incarnation as a hotel, the family owners decided not to modernize it too much.
Inside and out it has a tangible historic feel, with the modern niceties you would expect in such a well-regarded place not being allowed to intrude too much on the rustic, authentic atmosphere.
Outside it is surrounded by beautifully tended Italianate gardens which are a pleasure to stroll around.
You’ll find the owners warm and friendly, along with the B&B they also run an organic farm, vineyards, and farm restaurant a few minutes down the road – be sure to sample some of their excellent food and wine there.
Accommodation is in the form of B&B rooms and self-catering apartments to sleep up to four. Children are welcome, as are pets.
Some Guest Reviews:
“Staying here was so fun! My husband and I wish we had more time. Driving up to a castle to stay in was such a cool experience in and of itself. From the moment we brought our luggage in to the moment we left, was an absolute dream. I could have spent hours in the shared rooms if we had the time. There’s so much of the family’s history around— I couldn’t soak it all in! So picturesque….”
“Unique experience staying in an actual castle. There were separate dining rooms beautfully arranged. Great views of Siena from the top tower and the most interesting luggage elevator we’ve ever seen. Friendly host. Comfy beds. Highly recommend for a unique experience….”
